WASHINGTON (December 15, 2010) – Media Matters today released an email from Fox News Washington Managing Editor Bill Sammon in which he urged news staff to highlight criticisms of climate science whenever they mention the fact that the Earth is warming.
The email was not surprising to the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), which tracks climate misinformation on Fox News and other media outlets, but it is nonetheless revealing. While UCS has had productive interactions with a number of Fox News staff members, the network’s coverage regularly gives unwarranted weight to anti-scientific claims regarding climate change. This country spends more to incarcerate someone for four years than it would cost to educate the same inmate in private school for 12 years (and likely keep him/her out of prison).
The title of the film comes from educational reformer Geoffrey Canada, of the Harlem Children's Zone: As clips of George Reeves, as early TV's Man of Steel, play out onscreen, Canada recalls thinking as a boy that, somehow, sometime, Superman would arrive in the South Bronx and save him.

Both the Seattle and Washington, D.C., rallies opened with the "Star Spangled Banner" and ended with "American the Beautiful." Local organizer Jim Baum, a Maple Valley building inspector and farmer, said he was offended by tea-party activists asserting that they "wanted their country back."
